Massage details
Swedish Massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage:
shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes;
increases circulation without increasing heart load;
stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable;
stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time;
reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management; and carries out many specific medical uses.
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on connective tissue, and the goal is to produce changes in movement and posture. It targets chronic tension in muscles that lie far below the body’s surface. Deep muscle techniques involve slow strokes, direct pressure or friction movements that go across the muscle grain.
When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Massage therapists will use their fingers, thumbs or occasionally even elbows to apply the needed pressure. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.
Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as: chronic pain, limited mobility, recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury), repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis pain, fibromyalgia, and muscle spasms.

BodyGuard
About 8 years ago, Stephanie was introduced to an amazing device called the BodyGuard. When she experienced its effects on her body, she wanted her clients to benefit from them as well. The BodyGuard incorporates two body cleansing applications in one device. The first is the ionizer which helps pull toxins from the body. The second is the frequency generator that increases the frequency in the body (see more details here on our BodyGuard page).
After clients experience a relaxing deep tissue massage to help release the buildup of stress, toxins and lactic acid from the muscles, it's the perfect time to sit and relax and have the BodyGuard help extract them from the body during a 20-minute foot bath session.
